Apart from being the largest state in the U.S. Alaska is amazing in culture, wildlife, nature, and the popular motto, “Born and raised”.  I started my adventure in Alaska after being accepted for a position on a neighbouring island called Afognak Island.  The position was a seven week job working in isolation with one other person on sockeye cost recovery.  The responsibilities of this position were to maintain a barrier seine across a stream in order to prevent returning sockeye from swimming too far up.  The barrier seine than allowed local fishing vessels the opportunity to capture the salmon with relative ease.  These fish were raised for sustainable fishing reasons which helps feed local people as well as others, depending were the fish are sold.
